Abstract

As an archipelagic country, Indonesia is rich in resources from the marine sector. This wealth is very diverse and has very high economic value so it is hoped that it will be able to bring prosperity to the Indonesian people if managed well. Apart from that, the group of islands that make up this country stretches widely between two oceans and two continents. This causes Indonesia to have an important strategic position, becoming one of the choke points for international shipping. However, until now there are still few people who understand the great potential of our seas due to various things, including the low level of agrarian culture and maritime education which has been instilled since the colonial era. Due to this situation, maritime literacy is something important to convey to all the nation's children. A well-developed communication strategy will further sharpen efforts to bring the Indonesian nation closer to the sea. Through research using qualitative methods, the researcher seeks to dig deeper into ideal communication strategies as a medium for maritime literacy among the public in order to grow awareness and desire to better cultivate the economic and strategic advantages of Indonesia as an archipelagic country. Several strategies proposed include; education (formal and informal); Campaigns via print and digital media; And intense scientific publications on marine research. The conclusion of this research is that there are several communication strategies that are effective in strengthening people's understanding, attitudes and skills so that they have collective awareness of Indonesia as an archipelagic country, namely through family education, school education, maritime literacy campaigns and maritime research development.
