Abstract

The economic embargo imposed by the US, the Netherlands and England on Japan forced the country to seek natural resources (oil) in Southeast Asia to support its war needs. This reason then became the background for Japan to attack and control natural resources on the islands of Sumatra and Java. The Japanese attack on Palembang to control the allied oil refinery in Plaju and the Battle of the Java Sea are evidence of Japan's ambition to control Indonesia's natural resources. This study uses qualitative research with a literature study method approach. Data retrieval comes from literature studies in the form of books, journals and other sources of information. The benefits that can be taken from the analysis of this battle are that natural resources and energy are attractions that can trigger war, so that defense strength is an absolute requirement that Indonesia must have to maintain state sovereignty
