Abstract

The conflict between Russia and Ukraine is based on state security factors. Russia as a counterbalancing power to the west, feels the need to secure their territorial buffer zone against the NATO forces under the leadership of the United States in Northern Europe.
Ukraine, which during the cold war was part of the Soviet Union, clearly showed an attitude to join NATO. Currently, besides the two great powers (United States and Russia) there is a new balancing force from the Asian Continent, China. Regarding these global dynamics, Indonesia, facing the impact of the Russia-Ukraine conflict after the Covid-19 pandemic, must be able to establish a position and align forces in order to recover faster and rise stronger so that the maritime defense zone maintains its strength.
