Ambalat Block, Lantamal-XIII TarakanAbstract
The Ambalat Block is a body of water rich in mineral resources located north of the Makassar Strait and west of the Sulawesi Sea. Historically and based on the International Maritime Law Convention, this block is part of the jurisdiction of the Republic of Indonesia. In recent years, the Ambalat Block has been seriously supervised and guarded by elements under the ranks of the Indonesian Navy. This happened as a result of a unilateral claim by Indonesia's neighboring country, Malaysia. Malaysia itself, after making a claim over the Ambalat block, actively through its royal navy had patrols in the area of their claim until it passed through Indonesian jurisdictional waters. they even had time to expel Indonesian fishermen so that what was very worrying was the attempt to arrest Indonesian citizens who were carrying out activities in the Ambalat Block and its surroundings. In response to this, the Indonesian Navy has strengthened the maritime security patrol element and strengthened the territorial command of the maritime dimension there. The upgrade of Tarakan Class-B Naval Base to Lantamal XIII Tarakan is a real effective step taken by the Indonesian Navy in order to protect the Sovereignty of the Republic of Indonesia, especially around the northern Makassar Strait and the Sulawesi Sea region which is an area that Malaysia is trying to claim unilaterally.
